Happening This Sunday

Mordecai and his cousin Esther were Israelites whose family had been exiled to Persia. When the king needed a new queen, Esther was chosen. Mordecai urged her to keep her Jewish identity secret. When Haman wanted to destroy the Jews, Mordecai told Esther to help. He told her that she might be in the palace for this very reason. Though it was risky, she approached the king and revealed Haman’s plan. The king was furious, punished Haman and saved the Jews.

God's plan couldn’t be stopped by Haman. God was honoring the covenant He made that a Rescuer would come through Abraham's family, the Jews. He worked through Esther to save His people so the Rescuer, Jesus, could come to Earth just as He promised. Esther risked her life by admitting she was an Israelite and by approaching the king. Many years after Esther, Jesus didn’t just risk His life, but gave it up to save all people. He died on the cross and rose again so that we can be rescued from death and live in God’s kingdom forever!
